Congress is alerted by FBI Director Christopher Wray about terrorist threats sparked by Hamas’s attack on Israel.

YUG News Washington — FBI Director Christopher Wray cautioned Congress on Tuesday that there is no evidence that Hamas itself intends to or is capable of carrying out attacks in the United States, but that the terror attacks that Hamas has carried out on Israel could inspire threats akin to those that ISIS has posed in the past.

We think that the actions of Hamas and its collaborators will serve as a trigger for a never-before-seen level of inspiration—something we haven’t seen since ISIS established its own caliphate a few years ago. During a hearing on global threats, Wray informed the Senate’s Homeland Security Committee that “many foreign terrorist organizations have called for attacks against Americans and the West in just the last few weeks.”

The threat of terrorism has, in fact, increased throughout 2023, but Wray claimed that the prolonged conflict in the Middle East has made the possibility of an assault on American citizens in the United States much more plausible.

About the state of threats in the United States, Wray stated, “This is a moment to be alarmed. We are living in perilous times.” He advised Americans to be vigilant rather than make changes to their lives..

Following the assaults on October 7 by Hamas on Israel and Israel’s following operations against the Gaza Strip under Hamas control, the FBI director stated that the top fear of the U.S. intelligence community is lone-wolf style attackers attacking Western countries.

He reiterated this warning during his Congressional testimony: “Our most pressing concern here in the United States is that violent extremists, whether they be individuals or small groups, will be inspired by the events in the Middle East to launch attacks against Americans going about their daily lives.” The FBI director explained, “We have no information to indicate that Hamas has the intent or capability to conduct operations inside the US, though we cannot and do not discount that possibility,” in written statements given to Congress.

Wray informed reporters that the danger situation is still dynamic and ever-changing, even days after Hamas began its strikes in Israel. According to him, law enforcement cannot rule out the prospect that terrorist organizations like as Hamas and its allies may “exploit the conflict” by using the assaults and Israel’s reaction to incite strikes in the United States.

3. FBI director claims

The FBI director claims that actors with Hamas-inspired behavior are not the only source of possible danger. He said that the United States might be at risk from both cyber and physical strikes from Iran and Hezbollah. According to Wray, appeals to action have also been made by al Qaeda and ISIS.

We’re closely monitoring the potential effects of recent events on the intents of those organizations in the United States and the potential evolution of those goals, according to Wray.

Although they are still on the lookout, law enforcement authorities said they have not yet come across any specific, credible threats from terrorists targeting Americans on American territory.

Through an intelligence bulletin released by the Department of Homeland Security, FBI, and National Counterterrorism Center earlier this month, law enforcement was alerted to the possibility of potential attacks in the United States for individuals and institutions with “perceived” ties to the turmoil caused by the fighting between Israel and Hamas.

4. Intelligence analysts(FBI Director Christopher )

Intelligence analysts determined that the most likely threat to Americans, particularly those in the Jewish, Muslim, and Arab communities, is from lone offenders motivated by or responding to the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict. However, they issued a warning, noting that this was just “this moment” in a “fluid and evolving situation.”

In certain respects, Wray warned legislators, the threat was approaching “historic levels.” In answer to a query from Sen. Jacky Rosen, who has received threats pertaining to antisemitism, he stated that terrorists from a variety of backgrounds have targeted the Jewish community. Although making up only 2.4% of the US population, Jews were the subject of 60% of hate crimes based on religion prior to the start of the Middle East crisis, according to Wray.

5. Attorney General Merrick Garland said

Attorney General Merrick Garland said that there have been more threats made against Jewish, Muslim, and Arab communities and institutions in recent weeks. This is seen in the murder of a 6-year-old Palestinian kid in Israel and the threats made against Jewish communities on college campuses. Following the child’s murder by his landlord, who was reportedly driven by anti-Muslim sentiment, the Justice Department launched a federal hate crimes inquiry, according to the police.

Wray disclosed on Tuesday that the FBI had detained a man in Houston last week on suspicion of building explosives and encouraging the murder of Jews over the internet.

Additionally on Tuesday, Garland informed a group devoted to thwarting ransomware attacks that the Justice Department is willing to collaborate with Israel in order to disrupt the cash flow of Hamas following the attacks by identifying the sources of the terrorist group’s funding, including cryptocurrency.(FBI Director Christopher )
