Americans depart Gaza via the Rafah border crossing into Egypt, On Wednesday, the Rafah border crossing to Egypt opened to foreign passport holders for the first time since the October 7 Hamas strikes on Israel. Among them were hundreds of Americans and several injured Palestinians who had been stuck in Gaza.

A spokesman for the US State Department in Washington, Matthew Miller, acknowledged that some US citizens had fled Gaza, but he would not disclose the precise number.

Miller informed reporters on Wednesday afternoon, “A number of American citizens have crossed through Rafah and are in Egypt today.”

It is unclear how many of the at least 400 American citizens who the State Department claims are stuck in Gaza will be able to cross in the coming days. At least five nongovernmental organization workers who have been verified as Americans were on a list released by Gaza’s Hamas-controlled interior ministry as approved to cross on Wednesday.

2. President Biden stated (Americans depart Gaza via the Rafah border crossing into Egypt)

President Biden stated in Minnesota that more individuals would soon be permitted to travel out of Gaza.

Speaking at an event on his economic program, Mr. Biden stated, “We’re working nonstop to get Americans out of Gaza as soon and as safely as possible.”

Susan Beseiso, a resident of Utah who has been stuck in Gaza, said on Wednesday that she received instructions from the State Department stating that the US administration had trustworthy information indicating that restricted departures from Gaza would start this week. To guarantee a smooth crossing, precise departure dates will be allocated to U.S. citizens and their family members.

Beseiso conveyed her dissatisfaction with her circumstances prior to receiving word from the State Department.

Today, they began releasing foreigners, but not Americans. Perhaps we are not as significant as we always believed, Beseiso said. It feels like we are being held captive by the IDF forces, Egypt, and the United States, not Hamas. In a sense, they’re utilizing us as a human shield.

3. According to Miller

According to Miller, the spokeswoman for the State Department, the situation in Gaza “remains extremely fluid.” Miller said that during the next three days, Americans and their families who wish to leave Gaza would get email instructions on how to do so.

Video captured the crossing’s gate opening on the Palestinian side of the border on Wednesday morning as individuals started entering Egypt for the first time since the start of the conflict. Previously, convoys carrying urgently needed relief have traveled between Egypt and Gaza, but as of right now, no one has been permitted to access the Rafah gate.

According to a Reuters report on Wednesday, at least 320 people with foreign passports have entered Egypt from Gaza. Over the course of the day, it was anticipated that 545 foreign nationals and dual citizens as well as several ill and injured people would depart.

According to diplomatic sources who spoke with CBS News, Qatar facilitated a deal between Egypt, Israel, and Hamas in cooperation with the United States to permit the restricted evacuations from Gaza.

Huge lineups of people eager to depart gathered around crossing stations for passport and other document checks after they were permitted into the terminal area.

Speaking under anonymity, an Egyptian official stated that the first ambulances bringing injured Palestinians from the war-torn Gaza into Egypt arrived on Wednesday.

4. At least 81 people are expected to pass

At least 81 people are expected to pass, These individuals are being allowed to go in ambulances from Rafah to Arish in order to receive medical care.

Following the Hamas attacks that, according to Israeli authorities, claimed 1,400 lives, the majority of them civilian, Israeli air forces struck the area surrounding the terminal for the Rafah international crossing. An additional 240 persons were held captive.

The Gaza Health Ministry, under the authority of Hamas, reports that over 15,000 people have been injured in retaliatory Israeli attacks, which it claims have killed over 8,500 people, two-thirds of them are women and children. Some of these victims are being transported to Egyptian hospitals for medical attention.

Major Palestinian telecom provider Paltel said that another internet blackout occurred in Gaza on Wednesday and that service was now gradually returning.

When Israel last week announced an escalation of its ground campaign, Gaza was plunged into a 48-hour communications blackout. Prior to the most recent outage, Paltel had said that connectivity had been restored on Monday.
